Last week, Col. Janis Karpinski told a panel of judges at the Commission of Inquiry for Crimes against Humanity Committed by the Bush Administration in New York that several women had died of dehydration because they refused to drink liquids late in the day. They were afraid of being assaulted or even raped by male soldiers if they had to use the women's latrine after dark.
This problem has become so acute that the Army has set up its own sexual assault web site.

Operation Yellow Elephant
On Monday January 30, the College Republicans will sponsor a "Finish the Job: Support Our Troops" Rally on Capitol Hill in Washington DC (6:00 pm [New Time], American Legion Post No. 8, 224 D St. SE, Metro Capitol South) to support President Bush's January 31 State of the Union address.
Operation Yellow Elephant is urging them to enlist if they're so gung-ho on the war.
Cindy Sheehan said it best: If you support the war, I think you should join it. I hear recruiting numbers are low. It's the College Republicans' day; don't spoil it with anti-Bush counter-protests against the war itself. By encouraging the College Republicans and their supporters, including Protest Warrior, to volunteer for military service: Be A Man! Enlist!, we respectfully and patriotically remind them of their national leadership responsibilities as the future leaders of our governing party, as chosen by the American people.

Nbc News In Atlanta reports:
Two documents relating to anti-war and anti-government protests, and a vegan rally, prove the agencies have been "spying" on Georgia residents unconstitutionally, the ACLU said.
The government file lists anti-war protesters in Atlanta as threats, the ACLU said. The ACLU of Georgia accuses the Bush administration of labeling those who disagree with its policy as disloyal Americans.
"We have heard of not a single, government surveillance of a pro-war group," Weber said. "And I doubt we will ever hear of a single surveillance of a pro-war group."

From America Blog, discussing the Washington Post finally coming around to criticizing Bush
You know, it's a bit late for the Washington Post to complain that President Bush is acting like he's above the law. The Washington Post and most of the traditional media enabled Bush, helped him get to where he is today by not questioning his repeated lies, his repeated over-reaching for more and more power, to hell with the law, and now that the chickens come home to roost, the Post is suddenly shocked - I say, shocked - that George Bush is refusing to come clean.

FACT CHECK: Abramoff, The Bipartisan Scandal
The Democratic Underground has lots of this... its worth reading:
The media keeps pushing the line that Democrats are equally tainted by Abramoff because his clients donated money to Democrats as well as Republicans. Now why would Abramoff encourage his clients to donate to Democrats? This is a guy who once said, "It is not our job to seek peaceful coexistence with the Left. Our job is to remove them from power permanently." Not only does Abramoff hate Democrats, they aren't even in power. Why encourage his clients to give them contributions?

What Was Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia Doing on Day of Supreme Court Swearing-In?
Jan. 23, 2006 — At the historic swearing-in of John Roberts as the 17th chief justice of the United States last September, every member of the Supreme Court, except Antonin Scalia, was in attendance. ABC News has learned that Scalia instead was on the tennis court at one of the country's top resorts, the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Bachelor Gulch, Colo., during a trip to a legal seminar sponsored by the Federalist Society.

One night at the resort, Scalia attended a cocktail reception, sponsored in part by the same lobbying and law firm where convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff once worked.

Whitehouse Spin on warrrantless wiretaps
The main talking point on the right is:
Only Democrats are against the wiretaps, and that's because we are unpatriotic, and we want the terrorists to win.
On friday Karl Rove was quoted in the NYT said:
And according to The Carpet Bagger Report
"Yesterday on Fox News Sunday, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) became the latest Senate Republican to raise legal questions about the president's warrantless-search program.
...that brings the total of Senate Republicans who don't believe the president had the lawful authority to engage in this surveillance to seven: Specter (Pa.), Graham (S.C.), Hagel (Neb.), Snowe (Maine), Lugar (Ind.), Brownback (Kan.), and now, McCain.
The point, of course, is that we're talking about bi-partisan criticism. Karl Rove is desperate to convince the nation that Dems don't want any surveillance against suspect terrorists — a demonstrable lie — but the fact is, the body of critics against the president's program is growing and spans the ideological spectrum."

Mr. Rove's speech on Friday to the Republican National Committee was a classic example. Why it matters:
This is all part of a broad, ongoing and potent campaign to equate opposition to George Bush with being pro-terrorist, and the origin of this campaign is the Administration itself. Bush himself thus uses the language of treason -- treason -- to instruct us that we are permitted to criticize his policies only on the narrowest grounds and with the utmost respect, otherwise we are guilty of aiding the enemy:

AP confirms that Clinton searches were legal under FISA, Bush's were not
McClellan said the Clinton-Gore administration had engaged in warrantless physical searches, and he cited an FBI search of the home of CIA turncoat Aldrich Ames without permission from a judge. He said Clinton’s deputy attorney general, Jamie Gorelick, had testified before Congress that the president had the inherent authority to engage in physical searches without warrants.
“I think his hypocrisy knows no bounds,” McClellan said of Gore.
But at the time of the Ames search in 1993 and when Gorelick testified a year later, the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act required warrants for electronic surveillance for intelligence purposes, but did not cover physical searches. The law was changed to cover physical searches in 1995 under legislation that Clinton supported and signed.

Liberal Media Myth
The Washington Post's ombudsman's recently blogged that lobbyist Jack Abramoff gave money to both parties. Despite what you hear, it is not true. Abramoff is/was a republican lobbyist and personally, only gave money to Republicans. Clients of his (the indian tribes) DID give money to some Democrats, but there is no evidence that it was directed by Abramoff, or that the money was given to democrats as part of a quid pro quo.
That started a firestorm of comments on the Post's blog.
The Post's ombudsman then tried to clarify her remarks, and made things worse.

3 Attacks kill one scandal reporter, beat another, and a witness
David E. Rosenbaum spent his long newspaper career unraveling the lies and scandals of Washington, from Watergate to Iran-Contra to Samuel Alito's defense of illegally spying on Americans.
The veteran reporter was attacked Friday night by two men on the street near his home in a wealthy Northwest D.C. neighborhood where crime is unknown.
The men escaped in a black sedan after smashing Rosenbaum's skull. He died at Howard University Hospital on Sunday.
Just Two Months Ago ...
On November 8, there was a similarly mysterious attack in the area.
Emilia DiSanto, a chief investigator on the Senate's finance committee, was prominently involved in the unraveling of convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff's dirty deals.
She drove to her suburban Virginia home across the river from the Capitol. A man was waiting in the dark. He wore black clothes, black gloves and a black hat. He beat her so savagely with a baseball bat that it took nine staples to close up her head again.
He took nothing, and fled when people heard her screams. The crime was never solved.
And in June, a Los Alamos whistleblower was lured to a fake meeting with informants just before he was to testify for Congress.
Tommy Hook was horribly beaten by "three or four" assailants in a parking lot. Again, they focused on the head.
"Mr. Hook was hospitalized in an emergency room with severe trauma to his face and head, including a fractured jaw, and a herniated disk," the Project on Government Oversight announced after the attack. "He is heavily medicated today and unable to speak to the media."

Ney: Congress’s “Ethics” Instructor
Ney has been named as Representative #1 in the plea agreeements of both Abramoff and his partner, Michael Scanlon
Before they take their seats in the House of Representatives, newly elected lawmakers come to Washington for a weeklong orientation that includes a briefing on congressional ethics.
Presiding over their instruction is the chairman of the House Administration Committee, who since 2001 has been Rep. Bob Ney, R-Ohio.

Debunking the myths about domestic spying
Point by point rebuttal of the GOP talking points.
Why are they still saying they cant wait 72 hrs for fisa approval? The truth (and they know it)is they have 72 hrs after they've already spied to file with fisa?

cnn reports on nsa bugging amanpour
"A senior us intelligence official tells us that our colleague Christianne Amanpour has never been targeted by the National Security Agency and nor has any other CNN journalist."
Which leaves the questions of why Andrea Mitchell asked the question of James Risen, and why NBC pulled the question from the transcripts?
True or not, (and it might still be who knows) it illustrates the dangers of Bush having a good reason to tap someone's phone, in this case Amanpour's news sources that may have terrorist ties. (In August 2002, Amanpour worked on a special that was billed as an inside view of al-Qaeda.) But the implications of who else may have been bugged in the process are pretty scary.
Still havent heard why getting the FISA courts approval (even 72 hrs after the fact) hinders the war on terror. Or, why the NYT disclosing the NSA was listening to phone calls illegally aids the terrorists. Wouldnt they assume we were listening? Doesn't anyone else remember hearing that OBL was using multiple cell phones to communicate so we couldn't trace him?

did bush bug clinton, clark, and kerry?
NBC's Andrea Mitchell was interviewing James Risen the NY times reporter who broke the story about Bush's domestic spying. She pointedly asked him "You don't have any information, for instance, that a very prominent journalist, Christiane Amanpour, might have been eavesdropped upon?"
Why would her phone be tapped? Amanpour as a reporter is expected to have spoken with both gov't officials and those that might have terrorist ties.
If she was tapped, anyone else that used her phone/computer at home or at work would also be using a tapped phone/computer.
Her husband has probably used the phone at home.
Amanpour is married to Jamie Rubin. Jamie Rubin was:
A Clinton administration senior official and a spokesman for the State Department.
Chief foreign policy adviser to General Wesley Clark's presidential campaign.
Senior national security adviser to John Kerry's presidential campaign.
Even odder still, NBC pulled the question from the transcript of the interview.
When asked why, they replied they're still investigating the issue.

Here is the list of who Abramoff gave money to, per Michael Petrelis' research:
$172,933 - Republican
$88,985 - special interest
total: $261,918
That's 229 donations and not a DIME to Democrats.

Norman Solomon compared fellow Creators Syndicate columnist Bill O'Reilly to Joe McCarthy in a piece titled "Media New Year's Resolutions for 2006."
Solomon advised O'Reilly: "Carefully listen to the archival footage in [the movie] 'Good Night, and Good Luck.' If you don't notice your strong resemblance to Sen. Joseph McCarthy, ask someone who doesn't work for Fox to explain it to you."

you need this
Theres a new vulnerability not patched by microsoft. It affects all versions of windows.
It doesnt matter if you use firefox internet explorer, safari or opera browsers.
You can be infected viewing a web page, reading an email or looking at an infected file on your computer. Antivirus helps some (updating it is always good).
Researchers say attackers use the entry point to install hidden programs that can launch pop-up ads or steal passwords and other sensitive information.
Yes .... it is that serious. You can read about it here
Unregister the DLL:
Microsoft has not yet released a patch. An unofficial patch was made available by Ilfak Guilfanov. Our own Tom Liston reviewed the patch and we tested it. The reviewed and tested version is available here (now at v1.3, MD5: 14d8c937d97572deb9cb07297a87e62a), PGP signature (signed with ISC key) here. THANKS to Ilfak Guilfanov for providing the patch!!
Our current "best practice" recommendation is to both unregister the DLL and to use the unofficial patch.
After you reboot , download and run the vulnerability checker.

So here's the question that every Democrat running for any office must answer:
wow ... gotta read this. Mostly about voting issues in the US (which sound a little tinfoil-hatish at first, until you read the Diebold stuff) but has links to an article in The Financial Times about American foreign policy with quotes like this:
"Under Mr Bush's presidency a new international community has begun to emerge but, rather than being aligned with the US, it is counterposed to it."

Video - William Safire: "I'm with the critics" - over warrantless wiretapping
From Crooks and Liars
"I was writing a speech on welfare reform, and the president looks at it and says, "OK, I'll go with it, but this is not going to get covered. Leak it as far an wide as you can beforehand. Maybe we'll get something in the paper." And so I go back to my office and I get a call from a reporter, and he wants to know about foreign affairs or something, and I said, "Hey, you want a leak? I'll tell you what the president will say tomorrow about welfare reform." And he took it down and wrote a little story about it. But the FBI was illegally tapping his phone at the time, and so they hear a White House speechwriter say, "Hey, you want a leak?" And so they tapped my phone, and for six months, every home phone call I got was tapped. I didn't like that. And when it finally broke--it did me a lot of good at the time, frankly, because then I was on the right side--but it told me how easy it was to just take somebody who is not really suspected of anything for any good reason and listen to every conversation in his home--you know, my wife talking to her doctor, my--everything."

million dollar web page
4 months ago in August, a college student in England decides to raise money for school. He takes his home page, divides it into a million pixels, and sells pixels for $1 each in groups of 100. After selling $1000 worth, he starts to issue press releases. Large corporations buy space and find its a great use of their advertising dollar. He's out of pixels, a million dollars richer, and hes getting job offers and approached by investors.
